openSUSE Leap 42.3 released

Based on the SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) 12 Service Pack (SP) 3 enterprise-ready operating system. The openSUSE team has unveiled a new version of openSUSE’s Leap edition. The new version, openSUSE Leap 42.3, is a conservative update to the Leap series, introducing mostly minor fixed and package updates. “The release of Leap 42.3 provides adopters a reliable server operating system for deploying IT services in physical, virtual or cloud environments. Leap’s third edition of the 42 series has more than 10,000 packages and offers stability-minded users a refresh and hardware enablement release. The release is powered by the same Linux 4.4 Long-Term-Support (LTS) kernel found in the previous Leap edition. Leap 42.3 continues to use KDE’s Long-Term-Support release 5.8 as the default desktop selection while also offering GNOME 3.20, the same as used by SUSE Linux Enterprise. A variety of additional desktops is available in the installer through the newly designed desktop selection.

Korora 22 codename “Selina” is released

generic-laptop-korora-gnome-desktopChris Smart has announced the release of Korora 22, a set of user-friendly, Fedora-based desktop Linux distributions with a choice of Cinnamon, GNOME, KDE 5, MATE and Xfce desktops: It has been a long road to the Korora 22 (code name ‘Selina’) release and we’re sorry that it has taken so long. However, it is now finally available for download. KDE 4 is no longer supported in Korora 22. If you do not wish to upgrade to KDE 5 then please stick with Korora 21. With this release we’ve decided to no-longer include Adobe Flash out of the box, due to the continued high number of security flaws. The repository is still enabled, however, and if you wish to use Flash you can install it using the package manager, or command line ‘sudo dnf install flash-plugin’ – or install and use Google Chrome which has the current up-to-date version of Flash.

manjaro-0.8.13

Philip Müller has announced the launch of Manjaro Linux 0.8.13. Manjaro is an Arch-based distribution with friendly text and graphical system installers and the project offers many desktop utilities out of the box. “After four months of development we are happy to present to you Manjaro 0.8.13. This time we ship Xfce 4.12 tweaked and patched to have the best Xfce experience possible, Plasma 5.3.1, KDE Frameworks 5.10.0 and latest KDE Apps 15.04.1!” The announcement goes on to list specific upgrades to the project’s Xfce and KDE editions. New improvements can also be found in the distribution’s system installer: “We worked also hard to improve our graphical installer Thus and our system tools to make the installation and usage of Manjaro as easy and smooth as possible. With this install media we now support Manjaro to be installed on MMC/SD-Cards as well. This will allow some of you to install our distribution to smaller devices without hard drives. Also this install media fixes the issue we had with RAID0 and ext4.” Further information on this release can be found in the project’s release announcement.
